Hera

Icelandic-Kiwi singer, songwriter and guitarist Hera has spent more than two decades travelling the world with a guitar and a collection of songs. Born in Reykjavík and raised between Iceland and New Zealand, she began writing songs as a teenager and became a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition with her single Makebelieve. In 2002, she was named Female Artist of the Year (Söngkona ársins) at the Icelandic Music Awards, becoming the first artist in a decade to break the long-standing reign of previous winners Björk and Emilíana Torrini.

Since then, Hera has built an international career, releasing ten full-length albums and performing twice at Glastonbury in the UK and twice at SXSW; sharing stages with artists including Nick Cave, Joe Cocker, The Dresden Dolls and Tami Neilson. Her 2020 self-titled album, produced by Barði Jóhannsson, reached number one in Iceland, with the single Process also topping Icelandic radio. Her three most recent singles were produced by Will “Goodwill” McGillivray. Their collaboration has brought an effortless quality to her work, allowing the honesty of the songwriting to shine through.

Today, Hera continues to write, record and perform, drawing on a life lived between countries, cultures and constant movement. At the heart of her songwriting are the small, often overlooked moments that make up a life.. stories of love, loss, connection, humour and the things that really matter..
