Hello.. after more than 20 years, I have a new home on the internet..
If you’ve known me for a while, you’ll know this used to be herasings.com. That domain was mine for more than two decades.. where my music, videos and stories.. and everything in between lived...
I think I was about 16 years old, playing a show at the old Dux de Lux in Christchurch, when a beautiful woman — this beautiful woman: Jody Jelas — came and introduced herself and said she’d like to build me a website.. just because she could. And she did!
She came up with the name herasings and it just stuck.. I’ve never had a stage name, just the one I was given, but my surname was a bit tricky for a link, even in Iceland.. (Hjartardóttir)
Sadly, the domain lapsed.. and before I was able to recover it, someone else registered it. It has since become dodgy, so I recommend not feeding it clicks or any traffic..
The old email address associated with the domain has also gone with it, so any emails sent to my old @herasings.com address will no longer reach me.
So, here we are.. this is the new home: herasings.me
It’s a weebit sad to lose something that had been part of my life for more than 20 years, but I’m looking at it as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of an old one… (still hoping the .com can be recovered one day..)
But as it happens, there is something very exciting to begin this new chapter with…
On Monday 14 September, I’ll be performing at The Bitter End in New York part of a special showcase.
The venue itself has an incredible history.. Almost every single one of my favourite songwriters have played within those walls.. Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young.. just to name a few.. honestly, look at this list..
Sorry, I can’t really play it cool.. it was a huge honour and surprise to be invited to play, and I absolutely wouldn’t miss it for the world.
So I’ll hop on one of the world’s longest flights.. to play the shortest show..
I haven’t played in a very long time, but this feels like a pretty extraordinary and special way to return to music..
And while I’m there.. anything else you’d recommend doing for the few days I’ll be in New York with my guitar?
